When I was a kid, I loved my dentist, Dr. Coupoulos. Well, I hated the fillings, but I loved HIM. He's my honorary great-uncle and my dad's godfather. And he tells very funny stories and is just great with kids overall.
And when he was done working on my mouth, he'd take me across the street and buy me candy. Not a candy BAR. A big, 2-pound bag of whatever candy I wanted.
For a long time I wondered why a dentist would encourage such wanton sugar consumption, but then I figured it out.
He was keeping himself in business.
So today the College Board announced a new standardized test for 8th graders.
And I can't help thinking they're pulling a Dr. Copoulos on us all.
